The Bloody Woman

In Luke, chapter 9, we find a woman with an issue of blood. The
woman knew that if she could reach Jesus, she would be healed. She didn't
quit. She pressed on until she finally made her way to him. I believe the
crowd was very large, because the Bible says she pressed through the
crowd, yet she continued to follow after him and then…. She reached out
and touched him, he responded. She touched him in faith and with
determination.”

I love this precept from the Bible. If you study a little about the problem she suffered, and Jewish Law, you learn that she was in dire circumstances. Even for the normal menstrual cycle a woman was declared “unclean” and was limited in what she could do, where she could go, where she could sit, where she could lay, and even whom she could touch. This woman had the problem for 12 years! She has spent all her money on doctors, but was not cured. (The Gospel of Luke doesn’t mention the doctors, because Luke was a doctor, and they didn’t talk about each other negatively 2,000 years ago!).

Broke, not able to work because of her “uncleanness” most likely homeless, she has probably sat along the streets and heard of the miracles Jesus was working all over the city. Filthy, unkempt, stinking, can you imagine?

She knew touching anybody, could easily have meant death by stoning. People like her were required to walk the street shouting “UNCLEAN, UNCLEAN” so others would know to avoid her, “least they become unclean in their selves.”

BUT - “She said within herself, “If I can but touch the hem of his garment, I shall be made whole.”

She muscled her way through the crowd, obviously touching many people, and touched the hem of Jesus garment. Jesus felt the touch, and asked “Who touched me?” The disciples ask Jesus how He knew who touched him. I am sure Jesus already knew, but that put the burden on the lady. The Bible says “She fell down before Him, and told Him all she had done.” She knew she was in trouble big time, maybe even death.

And I do love this next part! He looked down and spoke to her, and called her DAUGHTER… I can just feel the compassion in Jesus voice as He said that. “Daughter, your faith has made you whole!” And she was immediately healed! WOW.

The Precept:

SAY IT,

DO IT,

RECEIVE IT,

TELL JESUS!
