| Patty and I purchased this home under some unusual
circumstances. The previous owners bought the land, two 40 ft. wide by
132 ft. deep city lots, raw and untamed, and placed a modular home on
it. On the day they started moving in, a disagreement ensued, which lead
to the couple splitting up and eventually divorcing. So, basically, we
bought it "brand new," at a very reasonable price.
Our home is three bedroom, 2-1/2 bathroom Modular manufactured by Victorian Homes. We have been here for over five years now, and the modular has some very good points (we heat with gas, with a winter season average of less than $80.00 a month) and a well-engineered floor plan. It has some bad points, such as the back door (a "mobile-home" door) completely failed in less than two years, just out of warranty. We replaced it with a pre-hung insulated steel door from Menard's, which turned into quite a project as it required enlarging the rough opening, trimming the vinyl siding, and perhaps the most difficult was trimming out the interior. Out home is build with 2X6 studs, while a "normal" stick built home used 2X4s. The door was made for a 2X4 wall. It took a little thought, but we got it done, and it looks nice. Over the next two years we purchased the two lots just south of us, giving us a total of 4 lots, just shy of 1/2 acre. |
